Dramatherapy in Schools
In both Primary and Secondary schools Dramatherapy can help children and young people with a variety of issues, such as emotional, behavioural and social difficulties as well as children with learning disabilities, looked after or cared for children, children/young people with low self esteem or little confidence.
A typical session may include some of the following:
Story - either creating or using scripted stories to explore themes/characters that may be relevant to the client's own experiences
Drawing - as an alternative way of describing thoughts/feelings or used as a way of reflecting without needing to use words
Movement - physicality can often be linked to emotional states; using movement can help to connect mind and body
Play/imagination - providing space for clients to engage their imagination and work creatively and playfully
Sessions are usually designed according to the needs of the children/young people. Possible aims may include:-
I offer both one-to-one and small group sessions. I work closely with the key members of staff within the schools, providing an initial assessment report as well as ongoing progress reports (whilst taking into consideration the confidential nature of the work)
